Chester the Kat

A Devon Rex unlike
any other

Chester was a Devon Rex cat with a personality so vivid and outsized that the word "pet" simply doesn't capture it. For eleven years he presided over his household, demanding attention, warmth, and fresh water — brought to him by his servants, naturally.

Devon Rex cats are known for their mischievous intelligence and dog-like devotion. Chester embodied every one of those traits, and then invented a few of his own. He was playful, opinionated, and deeply, deeply loved.

Born — July 7, 2003

Chester enters the world as a Devon Rex kitten, immediately plotting his takeover of hearts and furniture alike.

Chester settles in, establishes the rules of the household (his rules), and begins his reign with characteristic flair.

Still supervising

Now a distinguished senior, Chester's personality only deepens. He demands more lap time, better views, and fresher water.

Gone — October 3, 2014

Chester passes peacefully, leaving behind a household that would never quite feel the same — and an owner with 104 photographs and a lifetime of memories.

There are cats, and then there are Devon Rex cats. And then there was Chester.

Devon Rex cats are different. If you've never shared your life with one, the devotion and strangeness of the breed is difficult to convey. They are not aloof like the cats of myth. They are warm, present, loud, and unashamed of their need for you...
